Blog stage 8

In a colleagues classmates done by Dillon he discusses the point of Senate Bill 406 which pertains to the carrying and storage of guns by gun Marshalls. I agree with this bill because if there were to continue gun shootings maybe less deaths would happen. I believe that school shootings happen constantly because there is not enough protection on our schools if this bill was to not be approved then other type of method should be implemented to keep out schools safe. Addressing this issue is key in order to keep our siblings and family members safe. Including ourself because crazy people are among us and those who live by causing harm to others.

Blog assignment 7

In an article by Mike Moses from The Statesman post. The author addresses such issue over funding public education without constraining local control. Mike Moses at the beginning starts his article stating how Texas has been a low-tax limited government state. Being a state who is a “low-tax limited government state” means that it relies on a whole lot of sales and property taxes in order for the state to have funds.
One major issue this could bring on is education and the amount of money that it can go to each district schools and so on. I believe that if Texas being such a great state does not have enough funds for the school’s in this state then maybe it could be leading to an end of being such a great state. Simply because as years pass by the elderly people start to retire and leaving such important jobs behind we are required to put someone on their spot that will continue to do a better job than the person before him/she. As Moses states “Our children are not Republicans or Democrats”. Meaning that voters should not be involved in such issue instead the state should focus on this issue and fixing it soon instead of creating such conflict involving voters and so on. Simply because we’re the future and the future needs well-educated people in order to keep this state great.
It is pretty harsh to think that there are Texans in this state that disagree with such issue “that the Legislature and elected state officials will do all they can to appropriately fund public schools…”. Simply because they’re living a stable life does not mean that their grandsons will be in the same shoes as them. Texas as a whole needs to realize that times flies and that one day you’re in kindergarten and the next day you’re about to retire from your job and yes Texas needs to do everything to help fund public schools.

Blog #6 Commentary on Estevan Hernandez

I agree with you Estevan Hernandez on the fact that more than half of the inmates that are held on jail facilities face charges with small amounts of marijuana. I believe that it should be decriminalized because not only does it stack up our facilities but it also affects them outside in the real world like you mentioned trying to find a job etc... It should be decriminalized on the fact that if it is then it would be under control and such fee could be implemented.
Maybe one day not far away will marijuana be legalized and controlled for the use of those who truly needed and then maybe then our jail facilities would not be as over crowded as they currently are.

Blog Assignment #5

On an original commentary about Texas and local government is over my opinion that Texas relies on property taxes as well as sales taxes to fund the functions of the state and local functions. Such functions involve the educations that Texas has. This extends to the point that there is not enough money to cover all expenses and putting restrictions on the students of not being able to do any funding activities.
According to the U.S News Texas is ranked on number thirty-seven on the states level of education ranking this speaks to itself knowing that there are fifty states in this country. Also, the top ten states on the level of education are also in the top ten overall ranking for states. This is not a very good spot for this state to be in I believe that all Texans would like to be in the top ten states in the level of education because as generations pass by new incoming generations come along and they are our future. Knowing that students and our community is trying to generate more funds for education should have restrictions. In a Statesman post by Mike Moses, he states that the restrictions that are placed on school boards over funding money should be the same as to  "all elected officials: an up-or-down vote by the people holding them accountable for the decisions they make (or do not make) regarding funding and taxation".
In conclusion, there should not be any restrictions on school board members on trying to fund money for their school. Since Texas does not have enough money to fund the education then why should they put restrictions? Our government should definitely do something about this issue as new generations come better education is needed to make this state twice as great.

Critique Towards Editorial Texas post.

In an editorial from the Dallas News, the author discusses the point of political corruption in the city of Dallas. His first point was that there have been several cases of "high-profile corruption cases in North Texas". The author states that people may think that it could be very easy to stop corruption by simply selecting a different city council that seems to be good. I did like one point that he states that voting for a city council lots of people do not take in consideration because the citizens believe it is not an important role in their community. But as the author states "They have the power to raise property taxes, sign contracts and make your commute better or worse". This may be an eye-opener for the community because now they will realize who is in charge of the high change on property taxes. The author also states that now a whole lot of people are going out to vote during this election main reason is that they don't find it as important as a presidential election or a governor election. A big percent, in my opinion, has to do with the Hispanic population as we know that Austin, Houston, and Dallas are top cities in Texas and Hispanic's are becoming the majority of the population in these cities. A big percentage of Hispanic's do not have legal documents which obviously makes them eligible to vote. But I do hope that those who are able to vote do it and become more involved in this type of election. As the author stated that the more the eyes that are looking at this type of election the more difficult it becomes for the politician to practice corruption. I could not agree more on this point with the author because if the community gets engaged then the corruption level should decrease.

Critique towards Editorial Post Texas Gov.

In an Editorial Board from the Houston Chronicle,  the author critiques how Texas keeps raising the property taxes and lowering the state spending funds towards education. In other words, Texas is increasing taxes in order for the state to spend way less and the school's still get funded for the same about of money as before. His intended audience is to those residents that live in Texas and own some property "Considering how important education is to Texas’ future, and how much voters hate the inexplicable rise in property taxes year after year,". The author completely being against the rise of taxes by "6.8 percent each year" in order for the state to save a couple billion and keep them in their pockets. The fact that Gov. Greg Abbott wants to "pass an amendment to the Texas constitution about the possible ban of income tax" makes me think that this guy will be putting more money into his pocket and not giving enough funds into education. Since last time I checked Texas has the worst education percentage and I don't see any movement done by this governor in order to fix the situation. I totally agree with the author in the fact that there should be a change made and that "if we want new ideas, we're going to need new leaders". If that is how this state thinks about our education funding's then most likely expect a downfall on education percentages and more citizen's being against such actions. The author provided the reader with a couple solutions to not have such a high percentage on property taxes but as he mentions "We could list other fixes, but the state Legislature has to pass them and the governor has to sign them. Abbott and Patrick showed little interest during the last session". This basically shows the citizens that they are not willing to do anything about school funding and instead increase our property taxes.

Texas state and local government

This editorial as we may call it done by the University Of Texas at Austin is such a great reading because it really gives you key points to how this state really started from the beginning of the constitution of 1875 all the way to how counties operate. This reading provided to the community is really great because it does not give you many details and instead, it goes straight to the point. This reading starts off with a brief history of how Texas started and what the main population was back then. Also, another interesting fact was how the role of county organizations was done. Starting from having a county court, down to county treasurer and all the good stuff we now have. In addition, the way county's are currently operating really caught my attention because honestly who really pays attention to county operations and how taxes are distributed. This reading really does a great job in hitting important points of how counties operate and provide a much better understanding of where the tax money is really going. This is a short but great reading I recommend reading it could probably take less than five minutes but in this short amount of time you will benefit of great information.
